Everyone had a Good Time and the Band Made a Living!

That three minute song you hear at your local cafe, pub or stage performance is the cumulative expression of sometimes weeks of rehearsals. The dedication of musicians to their work is a double-sided choice of livelihood, many many hours and then that short, sweet perfected delivery that audiences hear so easily delivered. Even with all the pressure of setting up the equipment, the stage performance to deliver a song like water rolling of the back of a duck is key to the making it sound so easy and natural to the ear. The best case scenario is when after a successful performance, everyone has had a great time, people head home and the band feels fairly compensated. While they may have had as much fun as the crowd, that is the point of working at something you love and so it is with most people. No matter how much they love their job they simply cannot afford at the end of the day to tell the boss, "no that's okay, I don't need to make a living". With all the musicians and DJs on our fair island I like to think they provide a valuable cultural experience, one that uplifts after a hard day's work and maybe inspires you in your own occupation. That is why I support fair compensation, cover charges and passing the hat, it at least guarantees our music community remains vital and respected for their work both in rehearsal and on stage too!
